with Dr. Renee Matthews
In this month’s “It’s Your Health”, Dr. Reneč Matthews discusses women and heart disease. Women today are at higher risk for heart disease, and need to know the warning signs, as well as ways to avoid disease. Born and raised in Farmington Hills, Michigan, Reneč Matthews graduated from Michigan State University with a BS in Physiology. She earned her M.D. in 2005. Dr. Matthews has spent the early part of her career serving as a professional educator for a Institute for Transfusion Medicine Cord Blood Services and XM Radio Host for Reach MD channel 157 on XM Radio.
Over the past several years, Reneč has been involved in mentoring youth. She finds great joy in guiding today's adolescents and teens. Currently, she is a member of the Leadership Board for The Big Brothers and Big Sisters organization of Chicago and Metropolitan Board of the Chicago Urban League. In addition, she is a member of the National Medical Association and The National Association for Black Female Executives in Music & Entertainment.
In her spare time (which is rare), Renee promotes women's health concerns that target African-Americans. As a long time sufferer of asthma, she is also an advocate for asthma related health issues. Reneč's hobbies include traveling. She has lived in St. Maarten and Luton, England. Reneč seeks to encourage, motivate, and equip people in developing greater measures of their God-given character, wisdom, maturity and authority so they can impact their communities and live their best lives now.
